Why Instagram asks for a Business or Creator account
Scheduling and inbox tools can only work with professional Instagram accounts. Here is why, and how to switch.
It is Instagram's rule
Instagram only opens its publishing, comments, messages and insights tools to outside apps for professional accounts. A personal account cannot be connected to any scheduler that uses the official tools, and no app can work around that. If you try, Instagram will ask you to change the account type.
Business or Creator?
Both work. Business suits shops and companies; Creator suits individuals who make content. For scheduling, analytics and the inbox they behave the same, so pick the one that fits how you describe yourself.
How to switch
It is free, takes a minute, and you can switch back later.
- Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- Open Settings, then Account type and tools.
- Choose Switch to professional account.
- Pick Creator or Business and follow the steps.
What changes for you
Your profile gains insights and may show a category. Posts and followers stay as they are. Messages from people you do not follow arrive as requests, as before. After switching, connect the account in Ozedia by signing in on Instagram's own page, and your password never reaches us.
